Leisuretime Craft Day

Craft Day

Leisuretime are craft based activities organized by and held at the uniting church in Palm Beach on the Gold Coast Australia. Activities are held weekly every Wednesday during the school term from 9:30am to 12:00pm with a weekly fee of $3.50 which includes morning tea.

Although classes are open to any member of the public, most of those attending are retirees who have the time to participate in and desire to learn whatever it is they choose. It is also an opportunity for people with time on their hands or who are living alone to meet new people and make new friends.

Classes include watercolor painting, tapestry, smocked items, quilling, photo scrap booking, patchwork, mahjong, knitted toys, flower arrangement, glass painting, floral art, embroidery, ceramics, calligraphy, wood turning and others.

Instructors are volunteers who have an excellent knowledge of their craft and who are willing to pass it onto their students. Students can use Leisuretime to get focused and learn a new skill or simply use the occasion as a social event to catch up and chat with friends and make new friends.

Classes are subject to availability of instructors and some classes are limited in numbers.

Classes are divided into different areas and students work at their own pace under the instruction and tutoring from class teachers. Classes are very relaxed in nature and there is no pressure whatsoever to complete specific jobs within a particular time frame.

All classes stop at 11am for a morning tea break, which includes both hot and cold drinks plus biscuits and cakes.

Even after retirement many people discover talents that they never knew they had or are finally able to pursue a passion or hobby  that they never had the opportunity to do when they were younger and committed with work and  raising a family.

The facilities at the uniting church are well suited to Leisuretime activities with wide spacious rooms that interlink allowing students to mingle freely viewing other students and the works that they are undertaking without disrupting them.

First term starts on January 30
Second term starts on April 16
Third term starts July 16
Fourth term starts October 8

All classes stop on December 3

Market days are June 11 and November 12. On these days products made during the year are put on sale to the general public.

As you can see from the number of cars, Leisuretime is an extremely popular social occasion and opportunity to meet new or existing friends and learn a new hobby skill.
